Ridder-HortiMaX signs cooperation agreement with Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture

Last thursday, 20 November, Ridder-HortiMaX signed a cooperation agreement with Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture, a prominent Dutch research institute. Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture has joined forces with Ridder-HortiMaX and other suppliers to ensure the continuation of horticultural research and development.

Continuity of research
Due to the loss of collective funding for innovation-driven research from the Product Board for Horticulture, the development of horticultural knowledge in the Netherlands is under threat. This concerns both applied and strategic research with a long-term scope. The support from greenhouse horticulture suppliers will help ensure the continuity of applied and strategic research in the Netherlands.

Staying in the lead
At the collaboration's kick-off meeting, Joep van den Bosch, HortiMaX's CEO, explained why Ridder-HortiMaX decided to support this initiative: "We recognize the importance of strategic applied research and want to make sure that such knowledge isn’t lost." He continues: "It will also help the Netherlands maintain its leading position in the horticultural sector. The co-operation agreement will give the R&D Department of Ridder-HortiMaX easier access to the research expertise at Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture. Another key reason for the collaboration is internationalization. We've noticed that Wageningen UR greenhouse horticulture attracts a lot of interest from international investors. This means the institute will make it easier for us to get in touch with potential customers abroad."

Club of 100
Up to now, 25 suppliers have signed the agreement. Name plates of all the participating companies have been prominently displayed at the main location of Wageningen UR Greenhouse Horticulture, the leading centre for applied and strategic horticulture research in the Netherlands, which attracts thousands of national and international visitors every year. The aim is to reach 100 participants over the next few years.
