First edition of Green Business Event Westland hailed as success

The first edition of the Green Business Event took place on 1st February in the Dutch Westland region, Europe’s foremost centre of horticultural production and innovation. The aim of the event was to roll out the ‘green’ carpet for all companies, both Dutch and international, that operate globally from Westland. The event also saw the launch of a new website showcasing the many benefits Westland has to offer international horticultural operations. Our CEO Joep van den Bosch was present at the event to talk about the major role that knowledge sharing will play in the industry’s future.

New website & Westland region
One of the highlights of the event was the official launch of the English website The site provides relevant information for international companies and governmental agencies interested in doing business with or establishing a presence in Westland. Thanks to its proximity to the Port of Rotterdam and Schiphol airport, Westland is the perfect gateway to Europe for horticultural entrepreneurs. The region is also a hub of knowledge and innovation, serving as a home to growers, plant breeders, knowledge institutes, greenhouse builders and logistics service providers.

Green Business Event Westland
The event, which will be held once a year, was a joint effort of Westland Municipality, InnovationQuarter and Westland Marketing. Westland municipality and InnovationQuarter are working together closely to internationalize the region and attract new companies. Chris van Voorden, Managing Director of InnovationQuarter, said after the event: ‘Many new contacts have been made between the various companies this evening, and the participants are looking forward to seeing the event return every year.’

Four prominent figures in the horticulture sector gave presentations at the event, focusing on Westland’s key role in future food production. In his presentation, Rob Baan, owner of Koppert Cress, summed up the essence of Westland. 'Happiness and health. That is the essence of Westland. We can feed cities and heal people with our fresh, healthy food. The world is changing and we are gradually learning more about various diseases. It’s our job to produce fresh and healthy food for everyone in the world.

Joep van den Bosch, CEO of HortiMaX, said in his presentation: 'Knowledge is the key to the future. While we currently get our business from products, knowledge will become an increasingly important part of our business in the future. Westland is the centre of that knowledge.'
