Duijvestijn Tomaten and HortiMaX extend their co-operation

Last week, Dutch tomato producer Duijvestijn Tomaten and HortiMaX signed a new co-operation agreement to develop the automation software for a new greenhouse project.  This agreement builds on the successful co-operation between the two companies in recent years. Duijvestijn Tomaten is one of the most sustainable glasshouse nurseries in the Netherlands. With HortiMaX as preferred supplier, both parties are committed to developing horticultural innovations that will contribute to a more sustainable and healthier world.

Co-operation with a mission
Established over fifty years ago, Duijvestijn Tomaten's main mission is to grow tomatoes as sustainably as possible.  'Our natural gas reserves will run out one day', says Ted Duijvestijn, one of the Duijvestijn brothers. However, climate change is also a key concern.  Ted continues: 'We're getting more and more questions from consumers about our production methods. Together with our suppliers, we want to keep on improving those methods.  Our co-operation agreement with HortiMaX fits in perfectly with that aim.'

Staying in the lead
Thanks to their geothermal heating system, Duijvestijn Tomaten is one of the most sustainable nurseries in the Dutch horticultural sector.  So far, they've managed to cut their energy consumption per tomato by half. Duijvestijn Tomaten's new greenhouse project should reduce that energy requirement even further. The advanced technological development of their new greenhouse will also require a different method of climate control. Duijvestijn Tomaten and HortiMaX are now working together to develop the necessary climate control software based on the HortiMaX MultiMa system.

Preferred supplier
Under the agreement, HortiMaX will be the preferred supplier of Duijvestijn Tomaten for another three years. The new knowledge and products resulting from the development of the innovative control software will also become available to other growers or for other projects after a certain time.
